Asteroids
Shooter · 200 coins to play · free in your browser
Free-floating combat in a wrap-around field. Thrust changes your velocity and coasting gradually slows you, so flying well means managing momentum you already have. Rocks split when hit, so every shot makes the field busier before it makes it emptier.
Is this your next game?
For momentum and spatial awareness. Guns fire automatically while you stay active, leaving attention for thrust, turning and safe gaps.
Choose a cabinet in the arcade →How to play
- Drag anywhere — your ship flies toward your finger, and the farther it is the faster you go.
- Guns fire themselves; the ship wraps around the screen edges.
- Shave past a rock without touching it for bonus points.
Mouse and keyboard
- Left and Right — rotate the ship.
- Up — thrust in the direction you are facing.
- Down — retro-thrust, for killing the drift you just built.
Controls on a touchscreen
- Drag to steer and thrust in one gesture; the ship turns toward your finger and accelerates.
Scoring
- Rocks pay per hit, and the smaller fragments are worth more than the parent — a large rock broken all the way down pays more than one destroyed outright would.
Combos and multipliers
Near misses build OVERDRIVE. While it is active, score gains are doubled; a collision breaks the build-up. Splitting rocks also creates smaller, higher-value targets.
How a run ends
Losing your last life to a collision.
Worth knowing
- The screen wraps on all four edges, for you and for the rocks.
- Standing still is not a strategy: an idle ship loses its guns, so keep moving and adjusting your heading.
Your first run
- Use short thrust adjustments, then turn to face the next opening. On keyboard, Down applies retro-thrust when you need to reduce drift.
- Look at the opposite edge before wrapping across a boundary. Rocks wrap too, so leaving the frame is not a guaranteed escape.
A mistake to avoid
Holding thrust toward a crowded cluster. Splitting one large rock can produce several smaller threats; leave yourself a route through the fragments.
Worked example
Outside OVERDRIVE, a large, medium and small rock pay 25, 50 and 100 points respectively. A near miss adds 15. OVERDRIVE doubles score gains while active; deliberately grazing a rock is optional risk, not a survival requirement.
Examples describe in-game points or resources. Wallet rewards are calculated separately after submission.
